A pilot who flew over the Nazca desert in Peru have found a large geoglyphs are believed to be nearly 2,000 years old - and may provide new clues about the ancient Nazca people. "Nazca Lines" apparently recently exposed by sand storms that recently struck the area and saw figures like snakes along about 200 feet, large zigzag lines, and the giant birds as quoted from Nature Inflate So Master.
Pilot and researcher Eduardo Herrán Gómez de la Torre, who made the discovery last July, told the newspaper Peru El Comercio that the design may have been created by the Paracas, prehistoric cultures who ruled southern Peru from about 800 BC to 100 BC, predating culture Nazca, who ruled the region from 100 BC to 800 AD Paracas known for their beautiful art and textiles.
While scientists contacted by El Comerico said they suspected the geoglyphs were created during the period of transition between Paracas and Nazca cultures, archaeologists still have to confirm the origin of the design.
Other geoglyphs previously unseen now appears and shows the figure of a snake along 60 meter. This discovery was made by the pilot Eduardo Herrán Gómez de la Torre when he flew over the hills of Pampas de Jumana
Nazca lines covering an area of approximately 280 square miles in the coastal plains of Peru and were created between 500 BC to 500 AD usually depict animals, plants and geometric designs, they are believed to have had a "ritual astronomical functions." But according to Edward Ranney, design -design may have served a different purpose.
"Although their purpose is not definitively known, the design clearly serve the purpose of the ceremony, and constantly used and created during several centuries, perhaps to honor the sacred mountain and water resources," said Ranney in a recent interview with art blog PetaPixel. "Previously predicted that the lines nazca aligned astronomically and calendar, which may be true in some cases, but now the idea was not widely accepted."
Whatever their function, and the Nazca Lines geoglyphs form a unique artistic achievement and magnificent unmatched in the dimensions and diversity anywhere in the prehistoric world.
